This is a Big mistake. Why? Because the Citzens of Palestine, or Hamas; nor any of the Militant Groups will recognize Israel as a Sovereign State. Now, Hamas can go underground and emerge disguised as a new and more powerful Militant Cell. The UN Security Council members in reality delivered a Come to Arms Call for men of all Muslim Countries.
Palestine is promoted to the same status as the Vitcan? Speaking of being at opposite ends of the spectrum, this picture alone paints a silent breath of arrogance for both the Vatican and Palestine. While you are admiring this awesome portrait, mentally you will see traces of a Muslim versus Christian debate. How will we be able to continue into the future without a Palestine/Israel Peace Agreement? I believe the UN General Assembly missed a step or two!!!
Do not read me wrong. I am all for a Two State Solution. However, certain obligations should have been in place before Palestine was elevated to receive the authority to apply or become a member of The International Criminal Court. When Palestine takes a seat on the criminal court, some terrorist groups might obtain symphathy from fellow court members. By what criterial will the International Criminal Court differentiate between rights of the Rebels and the rights of a Countries Government? Will conflicts against Israel on behalf of the Palestinian People be viewed as being a Righteous War without a Peace Agreement? Will Hamas, al-Qaida etc...be hailed as Terrorists or Freedom Fighters?
I am convinced this move to include Palestine as a non-member state was done without considering the Future of Jerusalem. Jerusalem should never be a bargaining chip during any forth coming negotiations. Will time be a friend or foe for Israel? Will time be a friend or foe for Palestine? Has the Olive Branch been withdrawn? Has the the hearts of the Palestinian People overcome their " Death to Israel " attitude?
The United Nations Vote has left numerous questions unanswered. They have also made a mole-hill into a mountain. This Vote will multiply the unanswered questions. It will also create a cloud of gloom over any future conversations between Israel and Palestine. This Vote came at an opportune moment that may very well have welcome a chain reaction from undefined principles.
